Basic Potpourri

wild lavender
Making your own potpourri is one of the best natural air freshener ideas! You can create mixtures of your favorite dried flowers and herbs and place in small glass dishes in each room. Not only do they look beautiful, but they scent the room in a gentle way. Boost the fragrance by putting a few drops of your favorite essential oils on cotton balls and hide under the mixture. Experiment with the scents you like! Try a tea tree oil and lavender combination, as these two oils have natural antiviral and antibacterial properties. Try cinnamon and vanilla for a comforting, sweet fragrance. Explore scents to find the combinations you like the best. Use the scents that will make you smile when you enter each room.

Zeolite

earth held with two hands
If you are sensitive to fragrances, then the mineral zeolite is a great alternative to use as a natural air freshener. Zeolite is a safe, naturally occurring mineral which has super odor and moisture absorbing qualities. It is odorless and non-toxic. Zeolite can be purchased either in mesh pouches or loose granules, which can be reused many times by "recharging" in sunlight for a few hours. It's great for eliminating pet odors, and when used it in areas of high moisture, it reduces mildew growth. Zeolite is available at pet supply and home improvement stores, as well as on the internet.
